Here’s What to Do During a Flex Alert

Last year, Californians all came together to conserve enough electricity to power three million homes during Flex Alerts, which are voluntary calls to conserve energy when the state is close to reaching capacity.Graphic of person using a phone. Description: Lower thermostats to 72 degrees before 4 pm - this will pre-cool your home. Keep the sun out of your home by closing blinds and drapes. Description: WHAT TO DO DURING A FLEX ALERT: Set thermostats to 78 degrees from 4-9 pm, but be mindful of pre-existing medical conditions. You can learn more about designated cooling areas here. Avoid using all major appliances from 4-9 pm like dishwashers, ovens, and washing machines.
